Being seen
Just returned from the Institute of Coaching Leadership Forum with a roomful of master executive coaches. A remark by Dr. Carol Kauffman prompted me to reflect on important as aspect of leadership: Even after being formally anointed as the leader, how can you expect anyone to follow you if they cannot see or hear or understand you? What is your obligation to be seen, heard and understood by your team? By extension, what is every manager’s duty to be their best self all the time, since not every employee gets to see and hear their formal leader?
Sometimes the most obvious is the least seen.
